Inspired by the life and loss of Derek Rieth, former percussionist with Portland’s Pink Martini Band, Free Beat Nation’s mission is to make music available to ALL. The camp provides full scholarships for ages 10-18. With a diverse faculty of professional musicians and artists the camps philosophy is to bring the served and underserved together to break down economic barriers by creating connection and compassion through musical education.

More about Joanie
Tristan Brillanceau-Lewis – Tristan Brillanceau-Lewis is a Portland native who has been behind the lens since he was 13, picking up a camera while picking up skateboarding at the same time. Naturally, this led to his passion for documenting skateboarding that has led to working on a range of projects, from Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid Park to smaller, local projects like Portland Public Skating. This path has also led him to transition outside of skateboarding as well, working on a variety of projects for Nike, Adidas, and eventually, being on staff for the Portland Trail Blazers. Tristan’s roots in filming skateboarding, which demands an eclectic mix of spontaneity, quick-thinking, and fly-on-the-wall style coverage, has transitioned into his professional career in ways that capture raw, candid moments; telling stories that seek to blur the inevitable divide between lens and subject.
